This summer Chuck Redd and company explore the impact of two musical traditions in particular on American popular music and jazz: Afrianc-American blues and the multiple musical forms brought to American by Eastern European immigrants. Jim Ralph notes the Easter European "tinge" that has significantly shaped especially popular music in the first half of the 20th century by such songwriters as Irving Berlin, George & Ira Gershwin, Kurt Weill and Cole Porter.
